Why Deansgate is Manchester’s Most Coveted Address

Manchester’s most iconic thoroughfare, Deansgate stretches over a mile through the city’s heart. Here, the old is blended with the new – red-brick factory buildings from a former industrial age, to sleek, modern skyscrapers. Deansgate is the epitome of Manchester.

The word Deansgate stems from the lost river Dean which would have once flowed through the area. Gate comes from the Norse word ‘Gata’ meaning way. The area served as a Roman route connecting Mamucium settlement in Castlefield to the River Medlock.

But today Deansgate is more synonymous with shopping destinations, trendy bars, popular restaurants and high-end luxury residences alongside old, converted industrial buildings.

Deansgate Square

Nowhere more captures the substantial change Manchester has undergone than Deansgate Square. The new ‘Southern Gateway’ to Manchester’s city centre, the area is characterised by a set of striking, contemporary skyscrapers offering luxury residences in the heart of Manchester.

Just a few years ago, Deansgate Square was a collection of low-rise commercial buildings and car parks. Today the residential towers of Deansgate stand tall overlooking the city offering modern living spaces in Manchester’s city centre.
